Xiaomi, Redmi, And Poco: Understand The Difference

Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco may have the exact origin, but they differ. While Xiaomi is the original brand, Redmi and Poco were born as Xiaomi device lines, then became subsidiaries of the Chinese giant to become different companies later, although the same group manages them.

Understanding the original purpose of Redmi and Poco devices helps to know why Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco differ. Check out the difference between them and what are the outstanding features of each brand’s smartphones.

Xiaomi: Former Mi Line And Home To Top-Of-The-Line Models

Compared to other technology giants, such as Panasonic, which is over 100 years old, Xiaomi has a recent trajectory. Created in 2010, it quickly began to be successful with its smartphones, so much so that lines of devices produced by Xiaomi, such as Redmi and Poco, which we will discuss later, were so successful that today they function as independent companies.

In addition to an infinity of electronic products from all imaginable categories, from TV to notebooks, electric scooters, and even glasses, Xiaomi has maintained the Mi smartphone line in its portfolio since the beginning. When Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco were housed under the same umbrella, Mi smartphones had the best features and Premium construction, despite some exceptions like the A3.

Currently, devices with the Mi suffix no longer exist. Still, the brand’s top-of-the-line appliances and some Premium intermediaries only receive the manufacturer’s name, followed by its designation. After the Xiaomi Mi 11, it was replaced by the Xiaomi 12 and its variations as Xiaomi12 lite and Xiaomi 12T. In 2023 the manufacturer already presented the Xiaomi 13, a complete device with a Leica camera module and a lot of performance.

Redmi: The Mid-Range Smartphone With A Competitive Price

With autonomous performance from its original Xiaomi, since 2019, Redmi can be considered the home of cost-effective cell phones (at least when the dollar is helping). Redmi proposes to offer devices with good features and a competitive price. They are intermediate smartphones that may be better in some aspects but have a balanced technical sheet and some highlights.

The Redmi Note 8 was a device that drew attention for its elegant construction and exemplary game performance, despite being an intermediary. At the same time, the Redmi Note 9s brought good cameras, performance, and battery life. Redmi devices compete for the market with intermediaries from Motorola and devices from Samsung’s Galaxy S Line. The Redmi 11 line and its variations offer great AMOLED screens with a high refresh rate and a balanced spec set.

Poco: The Most Settings For The Lowest Possible Price

Poco is the most recent brand among the three, created in 2018 as a line within Xiaomi. It was born with the proposal to offer powerful devices at a below-average price. Still, as there is no magic, Poco devices undergo some cost cuts to produce machines with good performance and below-average prices.

The brand’s first smartphone to be successful was the Poco phone F1, and its technical sheet helps to understand Poco’s initial objective. The model features the Snapdragon 845 processor, a top-of-the-line chip from previous generations, and an all-plastic design. The model also has a 4,000 mAh battery, a high capacity for the moment the device was launched, but the cameras are only reasonable. Balancing the balance between offering some very nice features and cutting costs elsewhere are Poco’s devices.

Even more recent models like the Poco X4 Pro are inserted in the same logic, with an AMOLED screen and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, with a 108 MP camera, but with a Snapdragon 695 processor. This competent chip delivers performance for intermediate devices.

Although they are independent, the Mi smartphones by Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco that officially arrived and be purchased on the Xiaomi website.
